kalo
Privacy policy
Updated 4 October 2026
Kalo estimates the calories in a meal from a photo. This page says what leaves your phone and what stays on it. Kalo is run by an independent developer based in Tirana, Albania.
When you scan a meal
The app sends two things:
- The photo, reduced in size, as a JPEG.
- The language of the app, Albanian or English, so the estimate comes back in that language.
It does not send your name, email, age, height, weight, or calorie plan.
The photo goes to our server (Supabase) and then to OpenAI, which writes the estimate. We do not store the photo in our database. OpenAI may keep API inputs for up to 30 days under its own policy.
What we store on our server
- The IP address and the time of each scan, in a private table, only to limit how many scans one connection can make. Those rows are deleted after one day.
- If you subscribe, RevenueCat keeps an anonymous app id and whether the subscription is active. Apple keeps the payment. We never receive your card number.
What stays on your phone
- Your profile: sex, age, height, weight, activity, goal, target weight, pace, and how you heard about Kalo.
- Meals, including the photo saved on the device and the nutrition result.
- Weigh-ins.
- The language you chose.
Delete my data, in Profile, removes the profile, meals, and weigh-ins from this device. It does not cancel an Apple subscription.
Your rights
Email us to ask for a copy of the data we hold, or to ask us to delete it. You can also complain to Albania’s data protection authority (IDP), or to the authority where you live.
Kalo is not intended for children under 16.
